By Arethabelle Ewa Smith
“a large natural stream of fresh water flowing along a definite course, usually into the sea, being fed by tributary streams”
I have come to your river to surrender
that i might drift away
on a current set for me
on a promise of no destruction
lest the flood sweep me
I have come to your river to be purified
submerge me for i am stained of spirit
that my lungs might drink your freshwater
only here is there breath
I have come to your river to be reborn
having heard the tide and the wade and
the promise of freedom
emancipate me by your nature
I have to come to your river to drink
of the holy water that i might never thirst again
even as I race
from Babylon to Jordan
your river breathes life into me
