Cappuccinos, sunshine, red wine

taking time to recline, getting to the punchline, and music notes.

Leafy trees, the hum of bees

evening walks under the stars and wooly coats.

Wax dripping from a candle, sandy toes in a sandal

turning a door handle plus equal votes.

Watching Netflix, listening to Stevie Nicks

chocolate cake mix and tidy notes.

Grin and don’t just bear it, come over and we’ll share it

not a problem, I can spare it, the table is already set.

There’s still much to learn and more to forget.

The crunch of a garden carrot, silly jokes told by a parrot

a diamond ring– 14 carat– 2010s indie rock.

James Murphy, Morrissey, a hot cup of earl gray tea

decorating the Christmas tree, murals on the sidewalk.

Picasso’s muse, shared worldviews plus freshly cleaned hair

telling someone that you care, time in the open air,

beating Google solitaire and hidden tattoos.

Grin and don’t just bear it, come over and we’ll share it

not a problem, I can spare it, the table is already set.

There’s still much to learn and more to forget.

Inspired by Ian Dury and the Blockheads’ 1977 song, “Reasons to be Cheerful, Pt. 3”
